A great article

Marc Andreessen wrote a great article on why there’s no such thing as Web 2.0. I totally agree with him, very well written. Thanks to Oren for the pointer! Powered by ScribeFire.

Nokia maps and smart2go

I was very excited when I saw that Nokia was going to have free mapping software, with a “pay as you go” option for voice navigation. I use a TomTom for mobile nav, and absolutely love it, but if I’m going to a city, and gonna walk around, it’s not a great choice (I’ve got a 510, not really pocketable). OK, so I don’t have a built-in GPS, but I do have an external bluetooth GPS, and figured that’d be a great way to get started.

Moab trip

For all of you following my twitter feed (both of you), you might have noticed I took a quick trip to Moab for a friends wedding. Fun trip, stopped in Vegas on the way out and back, visited friends on the way out, and visited “the strip” on the way back. Been to the southwest a lot, but never made it to Moab. What a treat, all the different geographic wonders, all close to each other, and all very different.

First Twitter, now Jaiku

Still love the twitter, don’t know if I’ll be switching, or just trying it out, but followed Leo Laporte over to Jaiku, like hundreds thousands of others. He needed to switch ’cause of confusion with This Week in Tech (aka TWiT). There are differences, but the overall concept is the same. Jaiku has a Nokia S60 phone client, that’s cool, and it can put feeds into the comment stream (so this post, for instance, should show up there).

The Truman show

Heard about this from Robert Scoble with a twitter post. Didn’t get to see him, ’cause I was in a meeting, but can hardly believe someone’s doing this. It’s the Truman show, but Truman is producing it himself. justin.tv Powered by ScribeFire.

Infrant NAS up and running!

Per a prior rant here, I just bought a 2nd RAID store to backup my data, so I could at least have it redundant on site. After 3 disk problems (all 250GB Seagates, 2 failed, one just had an error it needed to run through and map out) on my other RAID, I got skiddish about having that be my sole source of redundancy, since it’s gone if a second disk has an error while it’s spending 12 hours rebuilding the first.

Fuzz goes live

A good friend of mine is doing a new startup, a new record label that is new-media oriented. Part of the wave that will change the face of the music industry, and on the leading edge of that wave right now. Good stuff, worth checking out. Powered by ScribeFire.

Too much data

Sitting on campus, next to a fountain, it’s about 75 degrees, watching a red-tailed hawk, and reviewing some documents. Then, I decided to hookup ScribeFire to my work Blog, since that’s how I author this blog, and it’s a bit more flexible than the web interface. And, I don’t have to remember to put in html paragraph breaks. Thinking about computers and software as a production mechanism today (well, most days, but today as well).

Ross Mayfield - Twitter Tips the Tuna

Great writeup on Twitter, it did seem to go nuts right at SXSW… http://ross.typepad.com/blog/2007/03/twitter_tips_th.html powered by performancing firefox

Using Twitter, trying tumblr

And having linked the two, it’s two great tastes in one. Both have the concept of “quick blurbs”, not long rambling blog posts. Interesting distinction, and not sure if tumblr has a distinct place outside a normal blog, or photoblog. Although some folks do indeed make every blog post into an actual article, most seem content to mix those, “look what I found”, and “look what I did” all into one big place.
