Ballerina

Rating: 4 of 5 gold coins
Basically, a female John Wick flick. And I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, it’s got all the action of a Keeanu flick, but with Ana de Armas as the protagonist. And nobody had to kill her dog to set her off. Many of the cast from the Wick films fill their same roles, and Keeanu shows up for a couple scenes as well. Takes place between movies 3 and 4, timeline-wise.

Would You Rather

Rating: 1 of 5 icepicks
Looking at the cast, you might think, wow, plot sounds bad, but they have decent actors in this! Well, aside from John Hurt, who must have needed some fast cash, I believe they got their big roles after this film. It’s just another torture horror film. Not sure what makes this genre interesting for anyone except serial killers. Yuck.

Dead of Winter

Rating: 4 of 5 frostbitten toes
Very atmospheric, tense, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. No big action scenes, no CGI (at least nothing big), no chases. Just people in the snow and ice, good ones and bad ones. One of the good ones is Emma Thompson, a grandmother who just went out to ice fish. Her performance alone is worth the price of admission.

Predator Badlands

Rating: 4 of 5 Synths
Didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. Fun new creatures, familiar old ones, good effects, and a decent amount of humor tossed in. Plus, they found a way to pay very few actors making it.

Tron Ares

Rating: 1 of 5 pointless sequels
Terrible acting, and the entire film is nothing more than one long CGI chase scene. Total waste of time.

Eleanor the Great

Rating: 3 of 5 support groups
June Squibb stars as a woman in her 90’s dealing with loss and grief. There’s humor and poignant interactions.

The Wrecking Crew

Rating: 4 of 5 bulging biceps
Mostly comedy with a bunch of action. Great interaction between Bautista and Mamoa as estranged brothers investigating their fathers mysterious death. A fun ride.

Song Sung Blue

Rating: 5 of 5 bah bah bahs
A true story of two tribute performers who end up performing Neil Diamond tunes. It’s happy, it’s sad, it’s got all the things, and the story is true and accurate. Both Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson turn in amazing performances, both acting and singing. Definitely Academy Award worthy.

Bugonia

Rating: 4 of 5 conspiracy theories
Two men kidnap a woman CEO, thinking she’s an alien. On the surface, that’s the plot, but of course a lot of things happen, and it’s all about interactions between the characters. Great acting by everyone, and a interesting plot.

Mission Impossible the Final Reckoning

Rating: 1 of 5 snorefests
Not much to say here. Watch any of the other films. This one is just terrible. 90% is boring, but these films are always touted for their great stunts and action scenes. Well, aside from gratuitous gunplay, there are really only two stunts, and a lot of boring dialog. One is underwater and very dark and not all that stunty. Plus, Ethan Hunt must be a cyborg, because no human could live through what this character goes through.
