Eleanor the Great

Rating: 3 of 5 support groups
June Squibb stars as a woman in her 90’s dealing with loss and grief. There’s humor and poignant interactions.

The Wrecking Crew

Rating: 4 of 5 bulging biceps
Mostly comedy with a bunch of action. Great interaction between Bautista and Mamoa as estranged brothers investigating their fathers mysterious death. A fun ride.

Song Sung Blue

Rating: 5 of 5 bah bah bahs
A true story of two tribute performers who end up performing Neil Diamond tunes. It’s happy, it’s sad, it’s got all the things, and the story is true and accurate. Both Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson turn in amazing performances, both acting and singing. Definitely Academy Award worthy.

Bugonia

Rating: 4 of 5 conspiracy theories
Two men kidnap a woman CEO, thinking she’s an alien. On the surface, that’s the plot, but of course a lot of things happen, and it’s all about interactions between the characters. Great acting by everyone, and a interesting plot.

Mission Impossible the Final Reckoning

Rating: 1 of 5 snorefests
Not much to say here. Watch any of the other films. This one is just terrible. 90% is boring, but these films are always touted for their great stunts and action scenes. Well, aside from gratuitous gunplay, there are really only two stunts, and a lot of boring dialog. One is underwater and very dark and not all that stunty. Plus, Ethan Hunt must be a cyborg, because no human could live through what this character goes through.

The Running Man

Rating: 2 of 5 CGI drones
There’s a man. He runs. So, the title’s spot on. But, the film is inferior in just about every way to the 1987 Schwarzenegger version, except maybe special effects. At least it was better than the last Mission Impossible flick!

The Long Walk

Rating: 3 of 5 shoes
A distopian tale by Stephen King where people compete to be the last one standing in an endless walk. You stop walking, you die. Last man standing gets to make a wish. Think that about wraps it up. More interesting than it sounds, but not so interesting as to be a great watch.

Rams

Rating: 3 of 5 parasites
Remake of an Icelandic flick about sheep farmers, and two warring brothers, but moving it to Australia. It’s labled as a comedy/drama, but there’s very little comedy, and a lot of drama. Good drama, it’s a decent drama, more about family and relationships than livestock.

About My Father

Rating: 3 of 5 Summer mansions
Two families vacation together, because the dude from the poorer family wants to marry the girl from the filthy rich family. Hilarity iensues. Well, a bit. But, it’s always fun watching Robert De Niro play an Italian in a comedy.

Wrath of Man

Rating: 4 of 5 Stathams
A Guy Ritchie action-fest, it’s got violence, guns, more violence, blood, and a bit of violence. Jason Statham does what Jason Statham does. Story gets a little muddled, and requires a more attention than most shoot-em-ups, with the timeline shifts throughout. But, if you’re up for bullets and explosions, this is better than many.
