The Best You Can

Rating: 3 of 5 enlarged prostates
Predictable writing, and no surprises to be found. But it’s a sweet enough story, and given the protagonists are married, there’s real chemistry. If you want a white bread rom-com, this is an OK pick.

Red One

Rating: 4 of 5 Krampusschlaps
Santa’s a buff old dude. The Rock leads his security force. Gryla (a Norse Orgre) wants to punish all the naughty people. An action comedy ensues. It’s just a fun, exciting and funny Christmas-themed joy ride. We’ve adding it to our must-sees during the holidays.

The Family Plan 2

Rating: 4 of 5 manual transmissions
Good action scenes, decent, if light, plot, fun locations. I’m sure I’ll forget the story in a week, but it held together well enough to keep the story moving.

Freakier Friday

Rating: 3 of 5 pocket of tissues
A decent sequel of an OK film. Same premise, more body switching. Fun moments, Jamie Lee Curtis is wonderful, as always. Not gonna be rewatching or adding it to a permanent library, but a fun watch.

Thunderbolts

Rating: 4 of 5 antiheros
Yes, another Marvel superhero movie. But, these are really troubled antiheros. Better than a lot of Marvel’s recent releases, it was fun and entertaining and had decent action sequences.

Frankenstein

Rating: 5 of 5 lightning rods
An absolute visual and story masterpiece. All the sets and cinematography were top notch, the acting was excellent, the visuals and lighting superb. And the story, although we all know the basic plot, Del Toro’s take is way more of a tragic drama than a horror movie. I really enjoyed it.

Fantastic Four First Steps

Rating: 4 of 5 stars
I’ll start with, it was a lot better than I expected. But, it’s Yet Another Super Hero Movie. So expect endless CGI, paper thin plots, battling against unwinnable odds. The standards stuff. This does have the general plot of the actual comics. Galactus is gonna devour earth, the Fantastic Four are gonna have something to say about that. And, conveniently, no other super heros exist in this scenario, so they’re all we’ve got.

Jurassic World Rebirth

Rating: 3 of 5 re-hashed plots
Yes, dinosaurs again. Guess what? People go in, people meet dinosaurs, people die, dinosaurs die. We get it, it was a bad idea to bring these animals back. But, this time, it’s got Scarlett Johanson playing a badass, which she does so well. The entire 3 stars this earned is because of her fun performance. If you’re not a fan of all the other reboots, skip it. Othwerwise, it’s a fine time waster that isn’t winning any Academy Awards.

Weapons

Rating: 4 of 5 creepy aunts
A bunch of kids, who were all in the same class at school, disappear. The town, naturally, blames the teacher. Much scary stuff ensues. Scary, bloody, creepy. Not entirely predictable. Good Halloween watch.

Drive Angry

Rating: 4 of 5 God killers
Another one of those cheesey, over-the-top Nick Cage action flicks. Loved it. Exactly as advertised, and did not disappoint. Fun characters, paper thin plot, mostly terrible effects, car chases, gore, jokes. Definately worth a watch for Nick Cage fans.
