Frankenstein

Rating: 5 of 5 lightning rods
An absolute visual and story masterpiece. All the sets and cinematography were top notch, the acting was excellent, the visuals and lighting superb. And the story, although we all know the basic plot, Del Toro’s take is way more of a tragic drama than a horror movie. I really enjoyed it.

Fantastic Four First Steps

Rating: 4 of 5 stars
I’ll start with, it was a lot better than I expected. But, it’s Yet Another Super Hero Movie. So expect endless CGI, paper thin plots, battling against unwinnable odds. The standards stuff. This does have the general plot of the actual comics. Galactus is gonna devour earth, the Fantastic Four are gonna have something to say about that. And, conveniently, no other super heros exist in this scenario, so they’re all we’ve got.

Jurassic World Rebirth

Rating: 3 of 5 re-hashed plots
Yes, dinosaurs again. Guess what? People go in, people meet dinosaurs, people die, dinosaurs die. We get it, it was a bad idea to bring these animals back. But, this time, it’s got Scarlett Johanson playing a badass, which she does so well. The entire 3 stars this earned is because of her fun performance. If you’re not a fan of all the other reboots, skip it. Othwerwise, it’s a fine time waster that isn’t winning any Academy Awards.

Weapons

Rating: 4 of 5 creepy aunts
A bunch of kids, who were all in the same class at school, disappear. The town, naturally, blames the teacher. Much scary stuff ensues. Scary, bloody, creepy. Not entirely predictable. Good Halloween watch.

Drive Angry

Rating: 4 of 5 God killers
Another one of those cheesey, over-the-top Nick Cage action flicks. Loved it. Exactly as advertised, and did not disappoint. Fun characters, paper thin plot, mostly terrible effects, car chases, gore, jokes. Definately worth a watch for Nick Cage fans.

All of You

Rating: 2 of 5 lost soulmates
Not sure the point of this one. Got great reviews, so maybe I’ve just seen one too many supposed soulmates separated by circumstance. Acting was fine, but a totally expected and predictable plot. Melancholy and sad.

Terrifier 3

Rating: 3 of 5 immortal clowns
Bloody, scary, and all the things you remember from the last two flicks. This one had less humor and more raw gore and violence than the others, which made it less fun for me. But, Art the Clown has earned his place as a legendary film villian.

In the Land of Saints and Sinners

Rating: 4 of 5 Irish Coffees
Kindof an Irish Western, strong character development, one of Liam Neesons better roles. Neeson’s a hitman in Northern Ireland in the 70’s, so the IRA and the conflict are front and center. An above average action film, where the characters have depth, real conversations occur, not just a shoot-em-up.

M3gan 2.0

Rating: 3 of 5 rogue AIs
Not quite the charm of the original, since the basic premise has run its course. But, they did a pretty good job of creating a whole new scenario for a rogue robotic maniac to run amok in.

The Naked Gun

Rating: 4 of 5 good sequels
Exactly what you’d hope for in a remake of the classic comedy. While the nonstop jokes are not quite up to the Zucker Brothers, they’re pretty good. Liam Neeson is exellent as Frank Drubbens son, and Pam Anderson is hillarious as his comedic partner.
